A Portfolio of Artists

I have  a l w a y s  had difficulties remembering artists' names. I actually thought that I would never make it past high school art classes because I'm so bad at it. Throughout my journey through art school, I've been fortunate enough to be submerged into work of appropriate artists for my development so I didn't have to come up with them on my own. Also, I had professors and peers handing relevant examples to me like free candy. Now that I'm creating lesson plans of my own, my problem still exists. People might ask you, "What are some of your favorite songs that you listen to?" and you sit there, mouth agape, trying to access that blank space in your head where your internal-iPod used to be. That is how I look when I say to myself, "Self, you know that artists clearly execute this concept and are great examples to show as inspiration. Who were they again..?"
How can I find artists?

This is a concept that I've been obsessed with as of late, so I'm taking the time to sit and record my findings (as few as they are). I've heard my peers mention websites here and there, such as Art21. I also think that websites connected to Contemporary Art museums are great resources to keep checking. Google searching..? It's certainly a tool used by my peers, but its also certainly a tool with lackluster results.
In my desperation, I've found myself resorting to popular social media sites for help! I must admit that I am lovestruck by Pinterest. In searching for artist names, keywords, contextual categories or whathaveyous, or the pins that your friends update, I almost always find something visually inspiring or relevant.

Is this a poor choice of resource? Are there other resources that you suggest? Is anyone else having this problem? Also, feel free to comment or email me to get a Pinterest "invite" or more information about how I've used the site to my creative advantage.
